Cats have a special scent glands located on the roof of the mouth called the Jacobson organ. It analyzes smells - and therefore sometimes see your cat "trick" (the so-called response or Flehmen flehming) when they encounter a strong odor. Your cat is just the smell of the processing by the gland in the roof of the mouth. It is perfectly normal, but it can be fun sometimes.

I think the cat is disgusted by the smell and just blame. To search with an open mouth.
I find it funny when they do. I'm curious to know why they should turn to the right in a person with an open mouth for something smells bad.
Perhaps they are trying to do you feel about themselves. A bit like people to feel when something says ok on the finger and, this stinks, smells. And you usually do not for some reason.

When a cat curls his upper lip seems to scorn, just an interesting scent, odor typically found in more intense and deeper. Called "flehming is to draw up the odors in an organ (Jacobson's organ) on the roof of his mouth.

Ha ha - I'm so glad that this question! My cat does exactly the same. It is an area on the floor sniffing (there's nothing I can see) and look up to me with his mouth open-air fun! It is sometimes for care even if the sun does not shine! : D That could be all about odor. lol. They love to see everyone elses thoughts on this point.
